Solving Ratio Problems!

We continued our work with ratios today and "little do you know" we were also starting to look into proportions.  More on that tomorrow...

Tonight's homework is to complete the Solving Ratios worksheet.  Remember that you need to do 2 of the 3 problems on the front, but you need to solve them both three different ways.  The back side has 4 problems and you need to do all of them, but you can do them however you want!

Reminder on the methods for solving:

The worksheet:

Good luck and do your best!  We'll go over it in class tomorrow!

Starting to solve ratios!

Today we worked on various methods for solving ratio problems.  We used pictures, tables, double number lines and tape diagrams as well as your own methods.  See the notes below for a reminder...

We also practiced the two new ways on additional problems. (shown below)

Tape Diagram

Double Number Line Diagram

While we were in class, we also came up with our own techniques.  Some of my favorites are below.

Tonight's homework is below.  Complete the double number line worksheet (both sides).

Have a good night!  Instagram me if you have trouble!  @misskahrimanis

More Ratios? Why not?

We continued to create ratios and play with equivalent ratios in class today.  first we rolled dice to create the three types of ratios and find equivalent ratios.

My example:

Next, we used magazine cutouts along with ratios we created to make magazine ads convincing people to purchase our products.

Examples:

Most of you completed the assignment in class, but please complete the creative assignment this evening if you aren't done yet.

More Ratios!

After correcting last night's homework, we had the opportunity to play with ratios, finding them in our "junk boxes" as well as making ratios with the items around the classroom.  Tonight's homework is to complete the worksheet "10-1" but only the side with with the animals and shapes, 13 questions.  It should be pretty manageable!

Tomorrow, we will start to talk about ways to solve ratios!

Have a great night!

Ratio Introduction

We began working on Ratios today!  We talked about the three ways to write a ration, as a fraction, with the word "to" and with a colon ":".  We also talked about how ratios can be "Whole to Part," "Part to Part" or "Part to Whole."

Notes from class:

Examples of ratios from class:
Brown eyes to blue eyes

Chocolate to vanilla

Morning person to night person

Tonight's homework is to complete both sides of the "Types of Ratios Homework"  You will need to write each ratio in the three styles and then determine what is being compared (parts and wholes).

Good luck!  Remember that you should check out magazines, the news, homepages online, and ads to help you find ratios!

Getting to know you on Day two!

Hey all!

I assume that I have some new visitors today!  Welcome!

This blog is where I post class notes, tutorial videos, homework assignments (What to do, and when I can, the actual assignment), information about class activities, information about tests and quizzes and some fun stuff that I think that you will like! Feel free to look around and let me know if you have any questions!

Today we did two major things:

1.  I reviewed my class procedures paper for everyone and sent it home. It it bright orange and parents/guardians need to read and sign BOTH sides of the paper! This should be turned in during math class tomorrow, Friday. The information is below:

2.  We started working on our name sheet. It includes your name and four sections with information about you. Please look below to see what goes in each section and my example. If you didn't finish in class, please complete it tonight and bring it to math class tomorrow.

Homework tonight:  Get your orange paper signed and complete your name sheet.

Have a great night!

Integer temperatures

Today we used our cold, cold Winter as inspiration for our lesson on integers.  Here's what we accomplished:

We also assessed Winter and Summer temperatures across the lower 48 to determine the best location to live...  The winner was Florida!!!

I hope that you enjoyed these activities!  I had fun!  Thanks to Virginia, NO HOMEWORK!
