Number Tricks!

Today we played with number tricks!  Here are some examples, the comics and the paper that I handed out as optional homework:

No required homework tonight, but if you make a number trick yourself, please share it with me and I will put it up on the blog!

Reviewing Combining Like Terms and Intro to Inequalities

We spent quite a bit of time going over last night's homework, but I think it made the concept quite a bit clearer!  Here are all of the answers to last night's homework.  If you still have questions or weren't in school today, please take a look at the answers below to help you understand!  No homework tonight.

We also began a very brief (briefer in some classes compared to others, but brief in all!) introduction to inequalities.  Take a look at the basic notes below!  We will spend some more time on the topic tomorrow, so feel free to start getting an idea about the concept with the notes below.

Combining Like Terms

Today's lesson was a lot of fun!  Thank you for participating in such a great way, double checking your work, thinking about the object that we used in our activity and transferring it to your independent work!  Tonight's homework is to complete the 13 problems on the worksheet.  Be careful about subtracting and watch out for tricky #13!

Notes from class today:

Today's activity (and the cheesy joke!)

Again, thanks for your awesome work today!  There will be plenty more thinking tomorrow!

Funky Functions!

Today we began talking about functions and using them to solve various problems.  Before we tried to get answers though, we defined independent and dependent variables.  Take a look at the notes and examples from class (shown below) to help you!

Tonight's homework is to complete the function packet.  I'm posting the answers to help you review if you are confused about any of the problems.  Think about which variable depends on the other.  That dependent  variable is what we are trying to solve.  The independent variable is the one that is usually given to you, the one that you plug into the problem to help you solve the dependent variable.

Want to practice some more?  Try these games: Function Machine 1 and Function Machine 2!

Thanks for your hard work!  See you tomorrow when we start talking about combining like terms!!!
