Multiplying Decimals Values

Hello again everyone!  It was great to see you back after the long Thanksgiving weekend!  I really missed you!  I'm sad to say that I will have to miss you again tomorrow as I will be at a math conference tomorrow!

I've planned a shopping trip for you tomorrow, so I hope that you enjoy it!  it will be on multiplying with decimal values.  See the notes and reminders below to help you with multiplying and specifically multiplying decimal values below!

More Fraction Action and Decimal... uh... nothing rhymes... Action!

As we did on Friday, we spend more time working on converting fractions and decimals today.  We reviewed the various techniques and practiced independently too!  Tomorrow we are going to play a game with converting and continue to bring percentages into our work.  There is no homework tonight, but it wouldn't hurt to practice you math facts and long division...

More Multiplying Madness!

Excellent job multiplying in class today.  Our second shopping trip was a success and I was very pleased with your work.  Since there are so many ways to make mistakes on a big long multiplication problem, I am posting each of the answers from last night's homework below.  Please review them if you had trouble with the assignment!

Tonight's homework is to complete the multiplication sheet (both sides, 17 problems).  I am going to grade this assignment as check +, check or check - based on your performance, so do your best.  Take your time, make sure your answer makes sense and double check your math.  It's too easy to make a silly calculation error, so you need to be super careful!

Mastering Multiplying with those Difficult Decimals!

To begin our lesson today, we watched a short video on multiplying with decimals!  My favorite part of multiplying decimals is step one in which we basically just ignore the decimals!  After we get an answer, all we have to do is count the spaces after the decimals in the problem and make sure that there are the same amount of spaces after the decimal in the answer!

Remember, to determine where the decimal goes in an answer, you COUNT the decimal spaces.  You can also use your skills of estimation to determine which decimal placement makes the most sense.

Tonight's homework is to complete the ten problems on the "Multiplication of Decimals" worksheet.  As a reminder, we also have a quiz next Tuesday on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals.
