Volume Basics

Today we began going over Volume of some basic shapes, box shapes and rectangular and triangular prisms.

We started by looking at some figures made of boxes to determine volume.  Some examples are below.  All of these figures have 27 cubed units in them.

In class we completed these problems.  If you missed class because of theater, please complete these on your own this evening.

The best way to think about volume of prisms is finding the are of the front and then multiplying it by how far back it goes, basically thinking about it in layers.  Here are some notes from class:

Homework is to complete both worksheets, shown below.  Please use a calculator if you would like and be sure to show your work.

Geometry Word problems

Today we began working with word problems in geometry.  We completed a few volume problems in class.  Answers are below.

Tonight's homework is to complete the four word problems on your worksheet tonight.  Keep in mind that the problems could be surface area OR volume, so be careful!

Here are the first two started from class and then the worksheet if you need to print it out!

Need the worksheet?  (Yes, I know they are sideways... so is the worksheet.  If you need to print this out, copy, paste and stretch it out to fill a side of a sheet of paper.  Thanks!)

Have a great night!  Test next Wednesday, April 9th!

Volume!

It was a blast playing with our building blocks today in class!  Do your best on the worksheet tonight and if you get stuck, grab the blocks you used to play with when you were younger, or play around on the computer with your drawing tools to try to make each shape on your own!  We will spend quite a bit of time looking at our shapes in 3D tomorrow, so if you feel frustrated, I promise it will be better in class tomorrow!

Remember, the first dimension is length.  Like a line.

The second dimension is area.  Any flat item.

The third dimension is depth.  Any solid figure.

The fourth dimension is time.  Where a solid figure exists at any given point in space and time.

The Fifth Dimension is a singing super group from the 70's...

Have a great night and complete both sides of tonight's volume worksheet!
