Ratios in real life

Today we played with ratios a bit more.  We practiced simplifying ratios and finding equivalent ratios, but we'll continue to work on that throughout the next few days.  We also reviewed the various ways we could set up a ratio; part to part, part to whole, and whole to part.

This evening, you should finish your ratio ad if you need to.  We looked at the way ratios are used in advertisements and then created our own.  Many of you finished in class, but if you didn't, please add your finishing touches this evening!

Homework:

Tomorrow we will continue to work with ratios, focusing on the different types and finding and using equivalent ratios.

Ratio Introduction

Today we began working with ratios!  We learned that there are three ways to write a ratio and that a ratio is a comparison of two values to each other.

This video goes over what we did in class as well as some of the things we will continue to work on this week:

Tonight's homework is to complete the questions on worksheet 10-1, all problems.

Have a great night and I will see you tomorrow!!

Solving Ratio Problems!

We continued our work with ratios today and "little do you know" we were also starting to look into proportions.  More on that tomorrow...

Tonight's homework is to complete the Solving Ratios worksheet.  Remember that you need to do 2 of the 3 problems on the front, but you need to solve them both three different ways.  The back side has 4 problems and you need to do all of them, but you can do them however you want!

Reminder on the methods for solving:

The worksheet:

Good luck and do your best!  We'll go over it in class tomorrow!

Starting to solve ratios!

Today we worked on various methods for solving ratio problems.  We used pictures, tables, double number lines and tape diagrams as well as your own methods.  See the notes below for a reminder...

We also practiced the two new ways on additional problems. (shown below)

Tape Diagram

Double Number Line Diagram

While we were in class, we also came up with our own techniques.  Some of my favorites are below.

Tonight's homework is below.  Complete the double number line worksheet (both sides).

Have a good night!  Instagram me if you have trouble!  @misskahrimanis

Ratio Introduction

We began working on Ratios today!  We talked about the three ways to write a ration, as a fraction, with the word "to" and with a colon ":".  We also talked about how ratios can be "Whole to Part," "Part to Part" or "Part to Whole."

Notes from class:

Examples of ratios from class:
Brown eyes to blue eyes

Chocolate to vanilla

Morning person to night person

Tonight's homework is to complete both sides of the "Types of Ratios Homework"  You will need to write each ratio in the three styles and then determine what is being compared (parts and wholes).

Good luck!  Remember that you should check out magazines, the news, homepages online, and ads to help you find ratios!
