Amazing Infographics!

I am so impressed by the work that I saw today!!!  I know that some people had technical difficulties, but overall, the work was a amazing!  If you are one of the technical difficulties people, see if you can fix it tonight using whatever advice I gave you and bring it in tomorrow.  There will not be a penalty for it coming in a day late.  Please try to stop by during HR so we can see if the problem is fixed.  I will post infographic pictures this evening since I can't do it from school today.  (I'm missing a cord!)

As you know, there is a test this Friday and again on Tuesday.  I distributed another study guide today during class (see me if you lost yours or didn't get one for some reason) that includes the following notes:

Converting Fractions to Decimals and Decimals to Fractions

To convert from a fraction to a decimal:

·        Multiply the denominator so it becomes a 10 or 100 and change it to a decimal

·        Divide the numerator by the denominator (you may need to use a repeating bar)

To convert from a decimal to a fraction:

·        Say the decimal and turn it into a fraction then simplify

Compare and Order Fractions

·        Use common denominators to compare or order fractions

·        Cross multiply to compare fractions

Percent

·        Convert fractions to equivalent fractions over 100

Probability & Ratio

·        Write ratios in three forms, with a colon, using the word “to” and as a fraction

·        Put ratios in lowest terms

Proportion

·        Set up proportions as two equivalent fractions

·        Make sure that labels match either vertically or horizontally

·        Use cross products (cross multiplication) to solve proportions

Add, Subtract, Multiply and Divide Fractions

Addition and Subtraction:

·        Set up the problem vertically

·        Find common denominators and convert to equivalent fractions

·        Add or subtract numerators, keep denominators the same

·        Simplify your answer

Multiplication:

·        Make everything a fraction

·        Multiply numerators, multiply denominators

·        Simplify your answer

Division:

·        Make everything a fraction

·        Keep the first fraction, change the sign to multiplication, flip the second fraction

·        Multiply numerators, multiply denominators

·        Simplify your answer

Friday's test will include most of the topics we have studied, and Tuesday's test will only include adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions and proportions.  Keep up the good work and keep your eyes open for additional posts with games to help you prepare for the test and photographs from class.

Proportions

Today we began working on proportions.





For tonight's homework you should complete the Proportion worksheet if you didn't finish it in class.  Additionally, as you know, the Infographic assignment is due tomorrow.

We will begin reviewing for Friday and Tuesday's Tests tomorrow.  I hope that you have started reviewing on your own!

Working on our Infographics

Thanks for all of your hard work today on your infographics.  Keep up the good work!  They are due on Wednesday!

We also have a two part test coming up.  The test dates will be Friday, October 21st and Tuesday, October 25th.  The topics include:

You should have received a purple paper with the information above during 7th period today.  If not, please come see me tomorrow.  We will start working on proportions tomorrow.

The long week is finally over!

This weekend, you should be working on or at least thinking about your infographic project.  We will have time to work on Monday, but spend some time this weekend on it too!

Here are some resources that might help you...

makebeliefscomix.com On this site you can create comics by typing in the thought bubbles.  The characters can explain each process.

xtranormal.com  This site allows you to create simple animations that speak out loud.  Type in the script and choose each scene.  I've made some of these and think that they are lots of fun!

voicethread.com  Use images and video clips that you can narrate by typing or recording your voice.  Teams can use this free online service to each add their own information without sitting at the same computer.



Google Docs allow you to keep a document (word doc, power point, whatever) online in the "cloud" so that you and your partner can access and change a document without working on the same computer.  Go to google with a gmail account and search "more" to set up a Google Doc.

Want to make a song or video tape you working on a problem?  Come talk to me about ways that we can make this work!

If you create a digital infographic- picture, powerpoint, video, etc, you can email the file to me at my school address or bring it in on a flash drive!  I will take care of downloading/posting/whatever!

Infographic Assignment

We are going to start working on a creative assignment to share our knowledge of Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing Fractions.  As you saw in class today, I expect you to come up with a creative way of showing me that you know how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions via an infographic.

You need to know what an infographic is, so here is a definition and a BUNCH of examples!
