Volume Basics

Today we began going over Volume of some basic shapes, box shapes and rectangular and triangular prisms.

We started by looking at some figures made of boxes to determine volume.  Some examples are below.  All of these figures have 27 cubed units in them.

In class we completed these problems.  If you missed class because of theater, please complete these on your own this evening.

The best way to think about volume of prisms is finding the are of the front and then multiplying it by how far back it goes, basically thinking about it in layers.  Here are some notes from class:

Trapezoid area

Today we explored trapezoids and found the formula for the area of a trapezoid.  Notes and HW below!

Area of Parallelograms

Today we explored parallelograms and found that they relate to rectangles and we find area the same way!  Area = base x height

Tonight's homework:  You may use a calculator and need to show your work!

Triangles

Sorry, this didn't post on Wednesday...

Today we worked on finding the area of Triangles.  We saw that one triangle is half of a rectangle, so we take our formula for finding the area of a Rectangle, b x h, and divide it by 2 for a triangle.
