First Quiz Today
Nice job everyone! I was very pleased with your work. I had hoped to return scores tomorrow, but I think we will have to wait until Thursday! Almost done grading them!
No Homework tonight because of the quiz.
However, we have the field trip to Hammonasset tomorrow, so be sure to bring a bagged lunch (no glass) with you and wear clothes that can get a little messy. Due to the breeze down by the water, you might want to bring a lightweight sweatshirt with you!
I am looking forward to the trip! See you tomorrow!

Thanks for the idea Scoop!!!
Tonight's homework is to complete the Pattern worksheet, but you also need to study for Tueday's quiz. Scoop suggested that I post some games to help you practice for the quiz, so here goes!!!
Write numbers in standard form Game One Game Two (try level three)
Write numbers in word form Game One
Round to a given place value Game One (you get to blow up sharks!) Game Two
Compare numbers using < , >, or = Two Games Boxing Game (this one is kinda hysterical, but the math isn't exactly what we are doing- just check it out for a minute!)
Estimate to find the sum (+), difference (-), Game One Game Two
product (x or ∙) Game One
and quotient (÷)
Estimating Game (multiple types and levels AND superfun)
Find the next numbers in a pattern and be able to explain the rule for the pattern Game One
Find the next picture in a pattern
I will keep looking, but this is what I have so far! :)

Still estimating!
Today we finally finished the estimation packet from Tuesday! I was really pleased with the logic that you used to solve the problems on the back page. We also completed a mad minute! Only one more to go! We will do the last one on either Thursday (tomorrow) or Friday.
Quite a few of you earned sparkly stickers for great work on the mini class assignment! That's awesome! I was pleased to see that many of you were able to begin working on the homework, estimation practice worksheet. Just a quick hint~ #2 is NOT division! We will do a bit more estimation and rounding to help us prepare for Tuesday's quiz, but we will also start working on patterning tomorrow! :)
Study for the quiz on Tuesday, September 21st!
(The info below is from the study guide that I will hand out tomorrow)
Please review your notes, homework assignments, and classwork assignments to prepare for our first Quiz.
You should be able to:
□ Write numbers in standard form (numbers and commas only)
□ Write numbers in word form (words and commas only)
□ Round to a given place value (underline the place value)
□ Compare numbers using < , >, or =
□ Estimate to find the sum (+), difference (-), product (x or ∙) and quotient (÷)
□ Find the next numbers in a pattern and be able to explain the rule for the pattern
□ Find the next picture in a pattern
To study in math, you need to complete problems to help you prepare! :)
Thanks for some good work today! See you tomorrow!

Counting to 1000!
I had a great time figuring out how long it would take to count to 1000 with all of you! After doing this activity in all four classes, I can let you know that it will take about 28 minutes to count to 1000.
We saw many creative ways to solve this problem and honestly there is no "right" answer, but 28 minutes seemed to keep coming up in each class! Who would have thought that it would take that long?!?!?!?
Tonight's homework is to complete the double-sided estimation worksheet. Remember that for numbers 1-6 on the front side you just need to round the numbers to the highest common place value and that you should skip #9.
See you tomorrow!

You Tube Time Machine!
Pick a year and see what video they have from that year...
I obviously haven't been able to preview all of these videos, so please check this out with a parent or guardian.
Here's 1999, the year most of you were born! Feel free to select another year and see what shows up!

Estimation!
We began to look at estimation today and spent a bit of time working on estimation strategies. Your homework this evening is to complete the estimation worksheet from class. Please use the notes below to help you with your homework.
Estimation with addition and subtraction: Round each number to the Highest COMMON place value. If both number go to the same place value, you can just round them to the highest place value. However, if one number goes to a higher place value, you have to round to the highest place value of the smaller number. ex: 123,456 + 78,012 Both numbers would be rounded to the ten-thousands place. 120,000 + 80,000.
Estimation with multiplication: Round each number to its own highest place value and keep single digits the same. (All the single digits!)
Estimation with division: Round the divisor first (but not if it is a single digit) and find a number that is compatible with the divisor. (pretend that the ~ is a division sign!) ex: 4,812 ~ 7 would change to 4,900 ~ 7 because the 49 works really well with the 7.
I hope that this helps a little bit! And remember not to round the single digits, all the single digits!
