Nice job today in class everyone!  I had a lot of fun playing the game and I hope to play more games like it in the near future!  It seemed like you all had fun too!  I hope to post the pictures soon!  Tonight's homework is to complete the dividing decimals worksheet.  It shouldn't be too bad!

Use the resources below to help you!

Pics from the Hallway...

Grades updated!

Parents can check your most updated grade in math class!  This includes the most recent quiz and your homework completion grade through today.  You can also check with me during the day tomorrow to see your class average!  Keep up the great work everyone!  I am tremendously proud of you and aware of the hard work that you have put into your school work!

Great job!

Dividing Decimals

Today in class we learned about dividing decimals.  But first we talked about dividing in general.  Here are the two videos we watched in class.

Mr. Duey

Tonight's homework is to complete the 6 problems on the back side of the packet.  As you know, we did #1 in class, so that means you only need to do 5 problems tonight.  Since they have double digit divisors, I have included the multiples for the difficult problems below.  You should be able to handle the multiples of 25 and 11 yourself.  Good luck!

Need some help dividing decimals?  Here are some tutorial videos...

and part two

Another one from "I hate Math" (I am not a fan of the title of their webpage, but the math is good!)

I hope that this helps!  Best of luck!

Out today!

As you know, I was at SmartBoard training today!  I look forward to bringing some of the things I learned into our classroom!  Tonight's homework is to complete the remainder of the multiplication packet.  Good luck!

Up for a challenge?  Try this!

See you tomorrow!

Multiplying Decimals

Hello again everyone!

A few things...

1. Tonight's homework is to complete the "Multiplication with Decimals" worksheet included in your packet. There are six questions on one side and four on the other. You may use a multiplication chart/table to help you, but no calculators!!!

2. I will be out tomorrow for SmartBoard training. I will try to post on the blog during the day! I sure hope that I learn some cool stuff for the SmartBoard! :)

3. Since I will be out tomorrow, I obviously won't be able to return your quizzes. You should expect to get them back (at least the scores) on Wednesday. Sorry about the delay.

4. You will have a sub tomorrow as I will be out for the day. I expect that your behavior will be as good, if not better than when I am here. Please act appropriately and be on your best behavior. PLEASE!

Here is an instructional video on multiplying decimals. Just a note, there is a small error in the first problem. When he started adding the numbers, he accidentally said that 2 + 0 + 3 = 6 not 5. Just a silly mistake that even math teachers make... The rest of his math is great though!

Just one example, but it should help:

I haven't found any fun songs for multiplying decimals, but if I do, I will post them. If you find one, please leave the link in the comments section and I will post it!
Good luck on the homework!

Connor's Awesome Blog!!!

In case you weren't aware, one of our team members has a really, really awesome blog.  Connor B is a creative cartoonist and has been posting his cartoons on his tumblr site for the last couple of months.

His blog, "My Creative, Insane World," has great comics on it.  I have included a few of the comics below.  Please check out his blog if you get a chance!  I think that you will really like it!  Please feel free to leave comments for Connor in the comments below.

I don't know about you guys, but my SAIL group was so much fun!  I hope that you guys are really enjoying the time that you spend in those groups!  I feel like I get a lot out of our activities.  Mrs. Joiner shared a site with the teachers where you can learn more about your learning style.  Click here to try it out yourself!  Feel free to share your learning style in the comments.  I was equal parts solitary, verbal (words), and aural (hearing).

As you know, we have a quiz tomorrow!  Use your study guide and worksheets to help you study!

The one area where we seemed to have some confusion was estimation.  Here are some reminders that will help you with the basic problems.  (You can get a bit more creative with the word/short answer problems)

Adding and subtracting:  Round to the highest COMMON place value!

Multiplying:  Round each number to its OWN highest place value!

Dividing:  Round the divisor first and then find a compatible number for your dividend!

Best of luck!
