Paint programs:

Sumo Paint

And some of the photo editing resources that I enjoy...

A sample picture that I edited (rather crazily) in Picnik

Same picture, different editing.

This makes the picture look like a miniature...  Same pic again.

Enjoy!  Go get creative!  Send me links to your pictures and I will post them on the blog!

-Miss K  :)

Okay... Here's the study guide...

In case you decide to get started, you can link to the study guide HERE and print it out.  If you didn't see my post on Friday, I changed my mind and allowed you to wait on starting the study guide.  I will distribute copies to everyone tomorrow, but wanted to make it available for those of you that would like to get started!

Remember, go to the Google Doc link above and print out the document.  You may also save the document and email your answers to me at school!  See you tomorrow!  :)

Tonight's homework!

If you are here and reading this, you have already started tonight's homework!

As you know, the photocopier isn't working, so you will have digital homework tonight!  Please play around on these games to practice you algebra skills.  Some games may be harder or easier for your, more or less challenging, more or less fun, but they should all be worthwhile!  Enjoy and be sure to leave a quick hello in the comments so that I know you were here!!!

The Games:

Algebra Puzzle (from class)  Think you got the 3 X 3 puzzle?  Give 3 X 4 a go!

Balancing Scales  Balance manipulatives.  And the scale really works!!!

Coin Challenge  A bit harder, but based on algebraic concepts!

Postal Delivery  Using values in your algebra problems- Fun sounds!

Equation Match  Find two equations in which the variables are the same value!

Solve for X  Pretty challenging!  You've got to think quick!

Solving Equations Calculator  Stick with the positive numbers and click on the number toward the bottom to "undo" the math equation.  Kinda tricky!

Millionaire  Really hard problems with negative numbers, but if you are really up for a challenge, give it a try!

Cool Math Basic Algebra  Click around between the lessons and the games.  Come may have negative numbers.

Like terms game  Be quick and get some good points!!!

And...  Just for fun:  Sugar, Sugar and Sugar, Sugar: Holiday edition

Have a good night and don't forget to leave a comment!

Combining Like Terms

It was fun playing with combining like terms in class today.  It seemed like everyone understood what we were doing and that you are all ready to do well on tonight's homework!

Reminders from class...

Thanks to Blue Class for letting me steal your work for the blog!

Tonight's homework, Combining Like Terms Worksheet, is available for printing HERE! Only 13 problems, so it shouldn't be too bad!

This video includes some stuff (exponents and negatives) that we haven't done, but is still basic enough to help.  Take a look if you need a reminder!

Have a good night!  Tomorrow is Friday!!!!!

Nice work in class today!

Nice job reviewing variables, constants, expressions and equations.  Here are the examples I collected throughout the day...

Tonight's homework is the writing expressions worksheet (Both Sides).  Work carefully and think about the scenarios, especially when dividing!  We were able to get 1388 questions right on today's challenge sheet.  If you were in Red class, you won't know that I lowered the number you needed to get right to 1200, and you all did an awesome job!!!  Your prize is that for the entire month of December you can put papers in the 100 bin even if you get one wrong.  Let's build up that pile!!!!

Tomorrow we will begin combining like terms.  Have a great night!

Variables, Operations and Constants! Oh My!!!

Today we began working with expressions, equations, variables, constants...  basically ALGEBRA!!!

We are doing basic work with identifying each of the terms and creating scenarios that match expressions or equations or vice versa.

Tonight's homework is Both Sides of the Expressions/Equations worksheet.  Please also bring in your signed decimal tests tomorrow.

The internet at school is slow and totally annoying me, so this will be a short post!  We watched an overview of our next topic, Expressions and Equations, today in class.  Homework is to get your decimal test signed by Wednesday.

Have a good one!

Graded Class Assignment Tomorrow!

As you all know, we have a graded class assignment tomorrow.  15 questions on customary and metric system conversions and understanding.  Please review your notes, previous/corrected homework assignments and previous blog posts to help you study!

You should have completed your homework in class today, but if not, please complete the Metric Madness worksheet.

Have a good night and memorize those customary conversion factors!  Don't forget about King Henry!

Missed you guys today.  Back tomorrow!

I'll be out tomorrow. :(

Thanks for all of your diligent work in class today!  Everyone seemed to do a good job on the worksheet and I was glad that you were able to get some work done during class.  As you know, tonight's homework is the (2nd) customary worksheet.  Work carefully and do your proportions on a separate sheet of paper.

Tomorrow you will begin working on metric system conversions.  Please remind yourself of the technique with the video below:

The sub should pass out multiple note sheets during class and your hw assignment will even have examples on the back.  I shortened the hw to just 16 problems (and did one for you) so that it won't be too difficult without me there.  I will provide you with a challenge math sheet if you finish early, but if you want to get caught up on your reading for LA or have other work to do, you can use remaining time as a study hall as long as you are quiet and appropriate during the class period.  I'll miss you guys tomorrow and I promise to think about what you guys are doing when I am feeling well enough.  Otherwise, it's sleep city for Miss K!

Be good ladies and gentlemen!  I hope to hear good things when I get back!  I'm planning on doing a short blog sometime tomorrow, so be on the lookout for it!

Customary Conversions!

Today we began working with actual conversions in the Customary System!

What you need to know:

1 foot = 12 inches
1 yard = 3 feet = 36 inches
1 mile = 1,760 yards = 5280 feet

1 pound = 16 ounces
1 ton = 2000 pounds

1 gallon = 4 quarts
1 quart = 2 pints
1 pint = 2 cups
1 cup = 8 fluid ounces

Want some more reminders?  Check out this previous blog post.

As you know, today we used proportions to help us solve our homework problems.  Remember to set up the first fraction with what we already know using the labels from the problem...

ex:  4 ft = ______ in

12 inches
  1 foot

Then complete the set up by using what we want to know as part of the second fraction.

12 inches  --   ? inches
  1 foot     --     4 feet

Then use multiplication (or sometimes division) to help you solve the proportion

12 inches  --   ? inches
  1 foot     --     4 feet

12 inches  --  48 inches
  1 foot     --     4 feet

I hope that this helps!  We will get more practice in class tomorrow!!!!

Tonight's homework is both sides of the customary conversion worksheet.
