Area and Perimeter game/info site!

Just saw this and thought that you all might like it and learn from it!  Check it out!  The level 3 questions should be good for you to practice with, but check out the lower levels first.  :)

Wring out Wednesday!

The rain has stopped!!!!  I have heard that many of you have had complications at your houses due to the yucky rain, and I hope that things get better soon!  Flooded basements and new ponds in yards are not fun!  Good Luck!

We worked on perimeter in class today, especially perimeters that included semi circles...  Everyone did a really nice job in class and virtually everyone finished during class.  If you didn't, tonight's homework is to complete the worksheet from class.  Tomorrow you will receive the one of the two study guides for next Thursday's test.

Thanks for your hard work today!  See you tomorrow!

Photography activity!

Hello ladies and gentlemen!

Today we corrected last night's homework and then got a chance to identify some of the shapes present in various photographs.  I hope that you enjoyed finding the shapes and finding their areas and perimeters.  I will try to post the pictures that I took today this evening or tomorrow night.  No Homework tonight.

Awesome job on the grade class assignment today!  You all did a nice job!  I should have the grade back by Tuesday.  I am feeling kinda yucky, so there is a REALLY GOOD CHANCE that I will not be in tomorrow.  SO BUMMED that I will be missing crazy hair day!  I will try to blog from home tomorrow, but don't hate me if I don't!

No Homework tonight and there probably won't be any tomorrow either...  Aren't you guys lucky!

Area of a Circle

Another version of the wavy parallelogram method for finding the area of a circle.  Step by step pictures set to music...

We will be doing things like this soon!

Simple instructions on how to find area...  They don't actually multiply out by pi, but be sure that you do!

Tonight's homework is to complete the area worksheet!

Please remember, r x r does not equal r x 2!!!!

Circumference

We began our circle work today as we talked about circumference...

First we identified the value of pi that we will be using...  3.14  Be sure to type in 3.14 rather than using the pi key when you do your calculations.  :)

Circumference is the distance around a circle, like the perimeter of a circle.
Diameter is the distance across a circle, through the center.  Twice the length of the radius.
Radius is the distance from the center to the edge of a circle.  Half the length of the diameter.

Tonight's homework is worksheet 4-7, all problems.  Use the formulas from class and on the back of the sheet to help you solve the problems and remember to use 3.14 for pi and to use a calculator for your work!

Additional notes and information on circumference from Mr. Glosser's Math Goodies.

Explanation and game: KnowledgeBox Math Games (click on the kid to shoot! The longer you hold it the further is goes)

Information and an interactive circle that shows you how values change as a circle increases or decreases in size. From Math Warehouse.

(ignore the area part for now...)

Best of luck on the homework!

My first beautiful thing!

First daffodil of the season. It just makes me smile!

I hope that you are finding beautiful things to photograph!  Remember to send the pictures to me.  If you need help, ask a parent or an older sibling.  If you need a few days to get the picture to me, that will be fine.  I have something planned for the pictures for later this or next week!

Happy spring my smiley fiends!
