Study for that Quiz!  Tonight's homework is to create your SUPER Irregular shape tonight.  Rules are as follows:

Create a SUPER irregular shape on one sheet of paper.  It must include the following:

• ·         A Rectangle
• ·         A Square
• ·         A Parallelogram
• ·         At least one cut out (bite)
• ·         At least one add on (tag)
• ·         Total Perimeter
• ·         Total Area
• ·         Straight lines (use a ruler)

Feel free to get creative and color it in, or keep it simple!  I strongly suggest using centimeters for your units!

Finding Area of Simple Shapes

Today we began working with area of simple shapes.  Most of you felt pretty comfortable with finding the area of squares and rectangles, but we extended  that to parallelograms and irregular figures.

Symmetry Reflections Rotations and Slides

Today we reviewed the various different ways we can manipulate images by completing a slide, rotating, reflecting or determining symmetry.  Please consult your notes for information!

Quadrilaterals!

Tonight's homework is to complete the Quadrilateral worksheet.  If you need to finish the notes paper, please complete that as well.  We will have a really simple quiz this Thursday on the following items:

• Polygon definition:  Closed two dimensional figure made of line segments
• Polygon types: triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon, decagon
• Triangles classified by sides:  Equilateral, Isosceles, Scalene
• Triangles classified by angles: Right, Acute, Obstuse
• Quadrilateral classifications: Trapezoid, Parallelogram, Rhombus, Rectangle, Square
• Regular vs. Irregular polygons

We went over a lot of information today, but I think a lot of it was review!  Take a look at the notes from class below if you have questions.  Tonight's homework is to complete both sides of the triangles and polygons worksheet.  Sorry to assign homework over the weekend, but it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes!
