Tonight's homework!

Is this...

Can you measure a line?  Why or why not?

  7. Yes because it's straight. Just take a ruler, line up the zero mark with the beginning of the line, and see which number the end of the line is on.

    You can measure different aspects of a line such as the slope. But you can not measure a lines distance unless it is a line segment. Plain lines go on and on forever.

  25. Yes, you can meausure a line because it is straight, and you can label it in many ways:cm,ft,meters,miles,yards...and so on. If it is a small line you would probaly measure with a ruler.

  28. You can't measure a line because a line keeps going on and on FOREVER!!!! However you can measure a line segment which has two end points that stop it from going on FOREVER and EVER.

  36. yes you can measure a line because if you take a ruler, the ruler is a strait line. a strait line has no angles so it is easy to measure a line.

  44. You could measure a line SEGMENT because a line segment has a certain length, but a line in-particular, would go on for a long long time, and you wouldn't be able to measure it. And that students is why you can not measure a line.

  63. No, you can't because a line is a long mark of band that can go on forever and ever. Sometimes it cannot be measured using one of our man made tools. However, a line segment can be measured. Since a line segment has to stop eventually, and it has two end points, it therefore can be measured.

  76. yes if it is a 2D shape because of the shapes perimeter but if its a regular line not like a piece of rope then no because it goes on forever and so can a ray if its not connected but it would be more tricky to measure a line if it had a curve to it then you would have to use more math. That is my long sentence or paragraph of why you can measure a line or not. Also a line is a 1D shape if you draw it out.
