A Girl Scout troop from Iowa has invented a prosthetic device that allows a three-year-old girl to write with her fingerless right hand. The Flying Monkeys, a robotics team of 11 to 13-year-old Girls Scouts, built the device, called the BOB-1 for the FIRST Lego League competition.
Danielle, the three-year-old who tested the device, was able to hold a pencil with her right arm and write for the first time. It worked so well that the Flying Monkeys won $20,000 to be used for a patent on the invention.
