The Face

In class today we watched part of the BBC production, The Human Face, with John Cleese.  We decided to focus on the Beauty Mask created by Dr. Stephen Marquardt.  This mask was constructed through the use of mathematics and the "Golden Proportion" to determine ideal beauty.  We were able to go online and fit the mask to various beuatiful celebrities after watching the video and also view short online segments that talked about the math behind the concept of the golden proportion, phi, and the fibbonacci sequence.

My challenge for you today is to see if you can add to the fibbonacci sequence.  First I will explain how it works and start you off.  Then I hope that each additional comment added to this post will add the next number in the sequence.  (No being greedy, just put one down and then let someone do the next one...  If a mistake is made, feel free to addyour correction and then we can go from there.)

The fibbonacci sequence is a list of numbers in which the next number is determined by adding the two previous values.

1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, etc....

1 + 1 = 2
      1 + 2 = 3
            2 + 3 = 5
                  3 + 5 = 8
                        5 + 8 = 13
                               8 + 13 = 21
                                      13 + 21 = 34
                                              21 + 34 = ?

When you comment, please show the equation that you used to determine the next value.  Let's see how far we can get with these numbers.

Thanks for a great class today!  I was happy to see that you were into the movie and the math background.  We have the mini-assessment tomorrow.  Be sure to complete the practice paper so that you come in prepared and ready!  I will take questions at the beginning of class before we do our class assignment!

-Miss K

  40. Oft I must strife with wind and wave, battle them both when under the sea. I feel out the bottom, a foreign land. In lying still I am strong in the strife; If I fail in that they they are stronger than I, and wrenching me loose, soon put me to rout. They wish to capture what I must keep. I can master them both if my grip holds out, if the rocks bring succour and lend support. Ask me my name!

  46. Hey guys i have a very hard riddle. Here it is. You are lost in town and there is a fork in the road. You see two twins. One lies 100% of the time and the other tells the truths 100% of the time. You dont know which one lies or tells the truth. You can only ask one of them a question. What question do you ask? I wonder who can get it first connor, sean, or Miss K?

    ReplyDelete
  47. uhhhhhh, Miss K will get this first...

You ask, "What will your twin say?"

If you ask the truth teller, he will honestly answer with the lie his brother would tell.

If you ask the liar, he will lie about what the honest brother would say and tell the opposite of the truth.

Either way, you do the opposite of the answer...

I have one last thing to say....

    BOOOOOYAHHHHH!

  48. Darn you got it right!

  49. I have a riddle.
A man was to be sentenced, and the judge told him, "You may make a statement. If it is true, I'll sentence you to four years in prison. If it is false, I'll sentence you to six years in prison." After the man made his statement, the judge decided to let him go free. What did the man say?
